Traditional and Whimsical Holiday Santas (Nisser) from Denmark and Sweden! All unique and a fun addition to your holiday decor!

In Nisse folklore the holiday figurines are different from the American Jolly Old Saint Nick. The Swedish Christmas Elf, the Norwegian Christmas Gnome, the Danish Christmas Man, and the Finnish Christmas Goat (though in Finland he's called the Yule Goat, but without the animal features) hold onto customs that are tied to their local cultures. He doesn't reside in the North Pole, but maybe in a nearby forest, or perhaps in Denmark, he's found on Greenland, and in Finland, he calls Lapland home; he doesn't sneak down the chimney at night, but rather waltzes in through the front door, delivering presents straight to the kiddos, just like the Yule Goat did; he's not chubby, and while he may occasionally ride in a reindeer-drawn sleigh, his reindeer do not possess the ability of flight--and in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, some still leave out a bowl of porridge (Risengrød) for him on Christmas Eve. He's still often portrayed on holiday cards and house and garden decorations as the little man of Jenny Nyström's imagination, often with a horse or cat, or riding on a goat or in a sled pulled by a goat, and for many people the idea of the farm tomte still lives on, if only in the imagination and literature.
