Royal Copenhagen/Aluminia Oranja Orange with Gold Trim Oval Platter

Rare treasure from the 1950s! This beautiful platter has been well-loved and has a charmingly faded edge. The orange basketweave border is trimmed with shiny gold. Designed by the talented Nils Johan Thorvald Thorsson (1898 – 1975), a ceramic artist and designer for Royal Copenhagen – Aluminia. Thorsson started as an apprentice in 1912 and graduated from the royal Danish Academy in 1917. He went on to become Royal Copenhagen’s most prolific designer, holding the title of Artistic Director from 1949 while also overseeing Aluminia from 1928-1969. His vast collection of work is hard to summarize, as it evolved over his many years with the company. But his iconic designs from the 1950s – 1970s remain popular, showcasing the best of mid-century and Danish modernism.
